THE REAL GOVERNMENT WELFARE WHORES

It is an amazing coincidence that so many of the right leaning bloggers that have visited TSR since it's inception are Veterans. They rightfully display this on their user profiles and mention it at every opportunity. They certainly would not tolerate disrespect for the service of any Veteran and I join them in their crusade to persecute disrespectors of Veterans.

Yet they turned their backs on fellow Veteran and legitimate Vietnam War Hero John Kerry in favor of Former President Bush, who defended the skies of Georgia and Texas quite ably I guess. They weren't attacked while he was awol from the National Guard. They still love he of the five deferments because he had better things to do than military service Dick Cheney.

What's just as odd, so many of the right leaning, Veteran loving all American patriot bloggers have been bashing President John F. Kennedy for asking Americans to ask what they could do for their country. One of the great ironies of this is JFK started his famous quote with "Ask not what your country can do for you." As endearing as this phrase should be to all who espouse the virtues of limited government and despising of those who would leech off government, the righties conveniently forget this part.

They even forget that JFK was also a legitimate Hero from WWII. That two of his brothers died for our Nation also.

The right has learned to overcome it's hypocrisy in the world of public opinion by employing spokesmen and unsuspecting, deluded, albeit well meaning I'm sure, bloggers to write and shout meaningless phrases and words like "socialism" throughout the web and news media so the weak minded will overlook their true motives. Greed and lust for power.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a notorious right leaning group. It make a goal of donating over 60 million dollars to it's favored candidates. But for all their talk of limited government, almost all of them demand government assistance for their businesses. A tax break. A grant. A regulation suspending. A zoning variance. As soon as the member gets all this, then he can go back to complaining about government welfare for lazy single mothers or lazy single fathers who's employers don't offer health insurance so we have more waifs on public aid. But God forbid a public insurance option to help employers and employees buy affordable health insurance become law. Business is okay with taking tax dollars and getting reduced utilities and the like from government. But how dare the government help others get health insurance. The wealthy are the ones that deserve public aid. If they don't get it, they're prepared to blackmail till they do. If you don't believe this, don't worry. Before long your local paper will have a story about a local business threatening to leave town if it doesn't get a tax break or a government contract. Or a business that says it will or would have come to your town if it got a tax break and other government incentives.

How come you don't feel the need to criticize the lack of Military service of Bill Clinton?
Who was the First and maybe the ONLY Pardoned Federal Felon ever to serve as president of the United States!
Bill Clinton is a criminal -- not in a loose, figurative sort of way, but in a very precise and definite way. He is a man who ought to be in prison after all he committed the exact same crime as Muhammad Ali did. Dodged the draft.
As the wife of a veteran who DID serve in the Vietnam War, I was shocked when Clinton's draft status during the election came to light.

Yeah, and you voted for cocaine snifting flyin' high AWOL Bush twice...

Seems like as a wife of a Veteran you should have voted for Kerry....if Clinton was such an issue for you Bush should have been too!

By the way, if you are a wife of a Vietnam Veteran then you are either his second wife or you were two years old when you married him because your profile picture doesn't quite capture a person who would have to be in her 50's and late 50's at that.

By the way, welcome to blogging!

Uggggg, why do I bother?

But since you asked, I'd rather vote for Mickey Mouse than vote for John Kerry

TAO said...

You just started blogging, so don't make us believe that this is some chore for you....

By the way, the whole point was WHY would you vote for Mickey Mouse over a decorated War Veteran...

We already knew you voted for Mickey Mouse...TWICE! But it was refreshing to have you acknowledge it...

As for your other question about my personal life. It's NONE of YOUR business.
But, just from reading your blog, I can guarantee you that YOU are not half the man that my husband is.

And after that comment I know that I'm making a big mistake just trying to be logical with you.
So I'll quit right now.
Why would you comment in a thread to show off your ignorance so profoundly?

Personally, whatever measurement of 'manhood' you use is utterly and absolutely no interest to me...

I saw what you and your kind did to Kerry's war record and service to his country and I saw what you did to McCain and I know what you say about Kennedy and there isn't a conservative around that could touch their war records...NOT ONE!

You make such a big deal of your own war service, or that of your loved ones and then you scandalize those with LIBERALS with heroic war service.

You and your ilk feel safer under a Cheney who dodged the draft five times because he had 'better things to do' and yet you will with a straight face bring up Clinton...and yet Obama is going off killing terrorists, arresting domestic terrorists, increasing troop levels in Afghanistan, and has Iran pinned in now...

Brillant logic there....

Get it Right: I figured a right leaner would be along soon enough to remind us of Clinton's deferment. If I brought it up that would have been like stealing from you. I could not in good concsience call myself "Truth101" if I had done that.

It does verify one of my points in the original post though. Righties proclaiming their Veteran status. In your case, your husband's Veteran status GIT. (I do appreciate his service and would gladly pay more taxes to see he gets all the benefits promised him as a Veteran) Then supporting the draft dodging Cheney cabal.

Thanks for stopping by.

Clinton's deferment! LOL!
Bill Clinton was the only man of his prime draft age classified1-A by that draft board in 1968 whose pre-induction physical examination was put off for 10.5 months. This delay was more than twice as long as anyone else and more than five times longer than most area men of comparable eligibility.
Political and family influence keeps Clinton out of the draft. Robert Corrado -- the only surviving Hot Springs draft board member from that period -- concluded that Clinton's draft statement (the long delays) was the result of "some form of preferential treatment." According to the Times, "Corrado recalled that the chairman of the three-man draft panel ... once held back Clinton's file with the explanation that 'we've got to give him time to go to Oxford,' where the semester began in the fall of 1968.
Corrado also complained that he was called by an aide to then Senator J. William Fulbright urging him and his fellow board members to 'give every consideration' to keep Clinton out of the draft so he could attend Oxford.
Throughout the remainder of 1968, Corrado said, Clinton's draft file was routinely held back from consideration by the full board. Consequently, although he was classified 1-A on March 20, 1968, he was not called for his physical exam until Feb 3, 1969, while he was at Oxford.
Clinton's Uncle Raymond Clinton personally lobbied Senator Fulbright, William S. Armstrong, the chairman of the three-man Hot Springs draft board, and Lt. Comdr. Trice Ellis, Jr., commanding officer of the local Navy reserve unit, to obtain a slot for Clinton in the Naval Reserve.
Clinton secured a "standard enlisted man's billet, not an officer's slot which would have required Clinton to serve two years on active duty beginning within 12 months of his acceptance." This Navy Reserve assignment was "created especially for the Bill Clinton at a time in 1968 when no existing reserve slots were open in his hometown unit."
According to the LA Times, "after about two weeks waiting for Bill Clinton to arrive for his preliminary interview and physical exam, Ellis said he called (Clinton's uncle) Raymond to inquire - 'What happened to that boy?' According to Ellis, Clinton's uncle replied - 'Don't worry about it. He won't be coming down. "It's all been taken care of.' "
Because of the local draft board's continuing postponement of his pre-induction physical, Clinton is able to enroll at Oxford Univ.
While at Oxford, Clinton finally takes and passes a military physical examination.Clinton receives induction notice from the Hot Springs AR draft board. Clinton however claims that the draft board told him to ignore the notice because it arrived after the deadline for induction. Clinton's friend at Oxford, Cliff Jackson, writes, "Clinton is feverishly trying to find a way to avoid entering the Army as a drafted private. I have had several of my friends in influential positions trying to pull strings on Bill's behalf." Clinton benefited from yet another lobbying campaign in order to evade this induction notice. "Democratic presidential candidate Bill Clinton, who has said he did not pull strings to avoid the Vietnam-era draft, was able to get his Army induction notice canceled in the summer of 1969 after a lobbying effort directed at the Republican head of the state draft agency." Arrangements were made for Clinton to meet with Col. Williard A. Hawkins who "was the only person in Arkansas with authority to rescind a draft notice. ... The apparently successful appeal to Hawkins was planned while Clinton was finishing his first year as a Rhodes scholar in England. Clinton's former friend and Oxford classmate, Cliff Jackson -- now an avowed political critic of the candidate -- said it was pursued immediately upon Clinton's return to AR in early July 1969 to beat a July 28 deadline for induction

Thank you for enlightening us that a guy used influence to avoid the draft Rattler. Who would have ever thought that would happen.

Truth,
Interesting post. I agree that a lot of veterans are conservatives. I don't really know what that means, but it seems to be a fact.

As for JFK, as a young Catholic kid I was thrilled to see him elected. My parents and all the nuns and priests were thrilled, much as the same as a lot of African-Americans are today.

As for his presidency, there is a lot to like about him, including his anti-communism and tax-cutting. We never knew about his womanizing because the press protected him, so really that's a dead issue.

As for Clinton I'm not a fan. He was a pragmatist or an opportunist depending upon your point of view. As for Kerry, he was a terrible candidate. For those who disparaged his war record, they should surely look in the mirror. Anyone who went to Vietnam deserves my respect, even if all you did was serve meals in a chow hall. That place was hell. Enough said.

I hope that you aren't saying, or maybe implying that because someone has been a veteran or worked for the government they can't be critical of it. I fit the profile and I am very critical of the government and will continue to be so.

I don't give a damn for party affiliation, all politicians should scrutinized within an inch of their lives. The Founding Fathers never contemplated professional politicians and the state of politics doesn't commend that career path.

I'm disgusted by nearly all politicians. Simply said, government should small and of limited intrusion. When government begins to intrude into bedrooms, businesses and boardrooms, it has gone too far.

Good day sir.

I am the only one around these parts that has considtently said he would gladly pay more tax to see that the promises we made to our Veterans are Kept LAOT.

I concede that your military service gives you more insight to the role of the military. That doesn't mean that you or any other Veteran is infallible on these issues any more than I am so on civilian matters.

Our argument will always be how much government is enough. Each situation must stand on it's own so there is no single answer to everything that government is asked to legislate and regulate.

I believe good government is part of the solution because there is no other entity with the scope and authority on so many issues to affect positive change.

This is a lie which has been debunked by Snopes. (further quotes and source of info is also Snopes.)

My question to you: which president committed the most federal felonies while in office?

Answer: GWB, who reauthorized the NSA spy program 30 times. "Federal law expressly makes the ordering of surveillance under the NSA a federal felony".

The Rattler said... Clinton is feverishly trying to find a way to avoid entering the Army as a drafted private.

"[Clinton was] not opposed to the military or war in general, he was morally opposed to the Vietnam War".

Me too. If I could have used my (or my family's) influence to get out of Vietnam I would have done the same (Although I didn't because I hadn't been born yet).

The Rattler said...Clinton's draft statement (the long delays) was the result of "some form of preferential treatment".

Which virtually every member of the Rhodes class of 1968 received. Not just Clinton.

The problem I have with Bush is #1 if you're going to use your daddy's influence to avoid combat the least you can do is SHOW UP, instead of going AWOL on an alcohol and/or cocaine bender. and #2 Didn't know a damn thing about facing combat, yet was quite eager to send others to die (chickenhawk).

Law and Order Teacher said... When government begins to intrude into bedrooms, businesses and boardrooms, it has gone too far.

I'm sure that the victims of Bernie Madoff wish that the Government officials responsible for protecting them had "intruded".

Republicans only love Veterans who support the Republican Platform of Profit over People and Socialism for Wealthy Industrialists and Bankers. The Poor can Pound sand, as it were...

This can clearly be illustrated when the Veterans of Foreign Wars supported non-veteran Peter Roskam over Tammy Duckworth in 2006. After all Duckworth was only a Veteran of a Foreign War who lost both legs in combat.

Of course, Little Peter RosCum serviced Tom DeLay and Henry Hyde so I'm sure they dropped a load on him...

And heaven forbid if any Veteran should disagree with American Wars of Awesomeness then Sean Insahnnity and Ann Coulter have to declare they don't believe it because all Chicken Hawk Never Served He-Men America Defenders are for wars at all times...
