The first to really capitalize on the right wingers penchant for buying books written by cheap looking broads was Ann Coulter. Admittedly, she is a pretty sad looking woman as far as women go. You could put a wig on a cane, tell a dirty old right winger it's a pro life, low tax woman and he would get an erection. At least if he had some government health insurance paid for Viagra handy. But to her credit, she found a willing market that would enable her to sell millions of books and get gigs on talk shows where she could further spew some right wing nonsense and cause more Viagra supported boners among idiots that will never have sex with her and most likely no other woman. But they do have the internet and posters.
Sarah Palin is also capitalizing on this phenomena of dirty old right wingers buying crap from women that tell them what they want to hear. While normal men like myself are unselfish and empathetic( we only want to hear our ladies moans of ecstasy) dirty old, selfish right wing males long to hear their female, (and male as long as nobody finds out) partners shout out things like "Lower my taxes!" Or, "Damn that pinko commie liberal Truth 101!" Once they hear this, the checkbooks are open and the credit card is put to use.
Palin's book is chock full of stuff guaranteed to titillate even the most stubborn rightie. It may even turn a few of the rightie ladies into lesbians if they don't get a hold of themselves. (So there may be some redeeming feature in Palin's book after all.)
Carrie Prejean is going to take this phenomena even further. I did a speak a long time ago about how Republicans can forgive fellow republicans for anything as long as they obediently return to saying republican stuff. Well Ms. Prejean has already apologised for her sex tape and all is forgiven. Her next move is to make another sex tape only this time, instead of moaning "oohs" and "ahhs" she will be moaning "Let's fight them over there instead of here." "Keep government out of my wholesome naughty stuff." "Dick Cheney did it for America."
For a long time righties either were, or chose to be duped into thinking these right wing commentators actually cared about America and the views they spouted. When Ms. Prejean goes into her act, I don't think they will care.

Since 2006 I've challenged righties all over the blogosphere to put up or shut up. I've been on record hundreds of times saying I would be proud to pay more taxes to keep the promises we made to our Veterans. Balance our budget and pay for our occupations. Only one right leaning blogger in that entire time has said he would do the same. It was not the phony patriot "Listen to Me."

I do not know what you think you saw, or whether you are just lying (I'd bet on the latter, given your attitude,) but there are absolutely no documented instances of any significant public abuse being directed toward returning Vietnam Vets. As is the case with most right wing cant (i.e. Ronald Reagan was a great statesman, not a treasonous criminal, Saddam had weapons of mass destruction, letting black people get fair loans caused the economic collapse, etc. etc. etc.) this story is a deliberate fabrication which, through endless repetition has come to be believed by the uninformed (that would be you, PSI Bond.)
My dad returned from Vietnam in November of 1966 on emergency leave--his mother (my Grandmother) was dying. He said he landed in San Francisco, and as he was going through the airport to catch a flight back to St. Louis, and he said that a woman spit on him.

I didn't believe them - until, on-about-04/15/71 I "processed" off Oakland Army Base enroute home to Texas. As I walked out of the front gate, a very pretty, long-haired blonde girl ran toward me. I smiled at such enthusiasm, but learned quickly as she screamed, "Baby killer", and SPAT IN MY FACE that my buddies hadn't lied, Instinctively, I lurched forward to defend myself, but was grabbed by an unseen (GI) hand and jerked backward toward the waiting bus and heard, "It ain't worth it." I got on the bus, shocked, humiliated and morally destroyed (no doubt, the plan all along). Only later did I learn that it was an orchestrated act common throughout the US at the time. I see it in my mind's eye to this day as if it is a bad dream, relived like a bad movie - I would recognize the blonde girl to this day. I will never forget, nor forgive.
For the majority of military members it's not political, it's a personal obligation; it's duty, honor, and love of country; it's that same spark that led our founding father's to build this great Nation. Spit away! I will defend you right to do so just remember who gave you that right!! Support the troops not the politics!! Spit on a Congressman or Senator or better yet vote for those who's policies best match you own.
Lets see, my father went to Vietnam in 1963 and returned in 1964and then again in 1969 and returned in 1970. No one spit on him.
Then we traveled with my father, who was in uniform, to Germany in 1964 and returned in 1968 and again in 1970 and returned in 1974.
So that is two roundtrips to Vietnam in uniform and two roundtrips to Germany in uniform with family...

So, right now we have a total of five roundtrips of travel by military personnel during the liberals 60's and 70's which works out to 10 single trips and we have one case of spitting...

There have been incidents where returning Vterans have been disrespected and they are despicable. The most prevelant form of disrespect thouh was the apathy showed them. Our own government allowed the outrage at Walter Reed to go on and on while hoping nobody would notice. I know young men that have returned from Iraq still waiting for our government to keep the promise of helping to fund education to them. But since the time of Reagan, the wealthiest and most influential among us come first with their big tax cuts and deregulations.

Our soldiers were sent to Iraq without needed supplies and self armor.

Many are homeless.

One of the first bills President Obama signed into law raised pay and benefits for the military, but the right now claims he was responsible for the Ft. Hood killings.
