THIRD GENERATION DEMOCRAT AND PROUD OF IT.

If anyone is still left wondering, I am and have been since I was thirteen a partisan Democrat.
I look at issues through the eyes of a partisan Democrat.

When I see people who can't afford health insurance I want to find a way to make it affordable for them. My opinion is a single payer national health insurance program is the best way. Takes the burden of health insurance off businesses that provide it. We all pay into it with a 3 or 4 percent income tax and reasonable deductibles or co pays. Everyone has an investment. I call it moving forward as a Nation.

When I see good people being laid off from their jobs, I don't view as the economy at work. I don't see it as a business decision. I see a tragedy. I want my government to do something. We're bleeding jobs right now. To do nothing would be a slap in the face of hard working Americans. I don't have a problem with my taxes going up to help people not as fortunate as me get back to work.

When I hear reports on the news of my government authorizing torture of another human being it sickens me. We have more than enough examples of our government ignoring despicable acts such as slavery or the treatment of Native Americans. We don't have to abandon our principles because our enemies either abandoned or had none to begin with.

I am a Democrat. I want my government to help make the lives of all Americans better. I want my government and my Country to be what all governments and countries aspire to.

Thank you for visiting my blog.

I agree with every point you make here except for one: I for the most part can't stand the Democratic party. Just like Republicans, every time they get in charge of one of the houses of congress they act like little kids trying to grab as much cash as they can before Dad notices. I didn't vote for the Democrats this year, I voted for Obama. I hope he can keep these yahoos in line.

Truth, I admire that you genuinely care about people. That quality makes you a good person, and I mean that sincerely.

There's a lot to deal with here, but let me take a shot.

Single Payer - doesn't work. There are three parts of the perfect health care system: universal coverage, reasonable prices, and fast service. Unfortunately the reality of economics is that you can only have two of those three. Pick any two, but one must be left out. Right now we leave out the first. In single payer systems, they pick the first but end up sacrificing the third. Now, it is important to note that things like cancer do get treated. Where the rationing kicks in is quality of life treatment. So if you're 60 you can forget about that hip replacement. The sacrifice is made by the older generation.

Job layoffs - I've been laid off and it sucks. I may get laid off this year. But you're vague as to your solution. If you're advocating job training I don't think that's the answer.

Torture - Sigh. Now that Obama is in office, notice that he's dumped the campaign rhetoric on this issue? He now accepts rendition and just adopted the Bush Administration's policy on this entire subject. Reality sucks.

In the end I am less enamored of the government's ability to help than I am of private charity. And I try to do my share weekly on this matter. Do you guys?

I stand behind the single payer system Tom. The leaders of my Party seem to support mandated universal care subsidized by the government. My problem is they don't have a way to pay for. I offered a four percent income tax on everyone so we all contribute along with deductibles and/or copays to keep the sleazeballs from abusing the emegency rooms with runny noses.

I been unemployed for a time as well. It sucks. I agree with you that job training is no solution. Training for nonexistent jobs is a waste of time and resources. Making sure our Country stays on the cutting edge of new technology that will create businesses that provide newly required jobs is vital to our Country's future.

I don't have a problem locking terrorists and those we have good reason to believe are terrorists. I just don't think torture is either necessary or in our interests. I believe in innocent until proven guilty. You can torture a person into confessing anything.

i want MY country to butt out of my business. i will share what i have with those IIIIII deem worthy. if you truly cared, you and everyone like you would do the same.

how charitable are you?

snowjobama is a poser and believes because he has some "change" (pennies) in his pocket, he's like lincoln. nothing could be further from the truth.

how about if i sit on my arse and let you take care of me? better yet, just send me about one third of everything you make so my husband won't have to work?

Nanc: the one third deal sounds good if I don't have to work either. Might piss my wife off but if it helps the economy it's the sacrifice we all must make.

Hi there. I'm a fourth generation Democrat! Since the new deal, my Great grandfather cajoled every subsequent generation even after his death in the fifties (long before my birth) to vote militantly Dem. At 18, I tried to be independent, but the 2004 election polarized me toward registering as Dem, and now I am a proud fourth generation Dem! Another interesting tidbit, on my dad's side, I'm a 3rd generation Dem! It's in my genes!
