THE CHENEYS ARE STILL IN CHARGE BUT HEY. IT'S A JOB

The Republicans are in a hell of a mess right now. They're new chairman Mr. Steele seems like a decent guy. But he's going to get a dose of reality from the neocons and fatcats that are really in charge.

I've been following politics since I was 13 years old. I'm 46 now for anyone that has a need to know. At certain times both political parties think they need to reinvent themselves to stay with the mood of the times. The Dems did it most recently when they laid down for Bush on Iraq. Now the Republicans are doing it with the elevating of Mr. Steele to Party Chairman. I've looked at his profiles. He's no neocon. But he will soon find out that the extreme right still runs the show in the Republican Party. He will be paraded out on FOX and CNN so the world can look at the nice man of color the open minded Republican Party has chosen as it's leader. But he will have no sway in party policy or strategy. They did it to J.C. Watts. They will do it to Steele.

The base of the Republican Party is the greedy rich, bigots and single issue zealots. I'm sure Mr. Steele will be a good soldier and say all the things Republicans say about taxes and less government. And he will be rewarded. But will he make a difference in how the Republican Party works? Will he usher in an era of disagreeing without being disagreeable? Will he repudiate the errors of Bush and his six years of a Republican Congress rubber stamping all his programs? Will he be able to mold his Party into the Party that really does work for a leaner smarter government? Sorry guys. He won't.

Can you really believe this? Tell me, from what you see at Redhunter do I fit into on of categories? If so, which one? I'd like to know, if anyone is at the base of the GOP it's me.

More to it, don't you think you're painting with a rather broad brush? It's just as wrong when conservatives do it.

"greedy rich" - One, the income breakdown is more complicated and you know it. There are rich greedy Democrats and poor Republicans. And vice versa. Get real.

Two, as if there aren't greedy rich Democrats. George Soros, Nancy Pelosi and her hubby, Robert Rubin, John Kerry and wife, (Jane Harman, the entire Hollywood crowd, on and on.

"bigots" - Yes they exist; In both parties. Which is the party of Al Sharpton? of Maxine Waters? Robert KKK Byrd? Truth be told I see an awful lot of hate on the left these days.

"single issue zealots" - Huh? The Democrat Party is defined by single-interest politics: racial, feminist, gay rights, pro-abortion, union, teachers unions, anti-war, etc.

(Michael Steele) will soon find out that the extreme right still runs the show in the Republican Party." - and the far left doesn't run the Democrat party? Come on, don't be silly.

Mine is the aprty of the big tent Tom. people with pro life, or pro gun views which I share are welcome. We are not cast aside. The Democrats haven't promised evangelicals everything they want to hear only to brush the promises aside while both houses of Congress and the Presidency were in our control.

Your point that there are greedy rich Democrats is valid. But their greed is tempered with a desire to do society good. Not just worry about big tax breaks.

Democrats don't pander to bigots in their campaign ads. Aka. Willie Horton and other examples.

Barack Obama runs the Party now. Look at his moves and even you will admit he is governing from the center. He went to Capital Hill to get Republicans on board with the stimulous. While Steele may talk like he wants more non partisan cooperation, heis Republican Party members in Congress have no interest in such behavior as demonstrated by their 100% no vote.

Thanks for stopping by Tom. I promise to behave on my visits to your site lest I face banishment.

I really only have two rules for commenters, Truth

1) No foul language

2) Stay on topic. In other words, commenters can't use my comments section as their personal blog (which I had happen once).

Re you comment; come on, stop seeing your party as all good and other other side as all bad.

The Democrats welcome pro-life? That's a good joke.

"But their greed is tempered with a desire to do society good. Not just worry about big tax breaks."

Sigh. So Republicans don't want to do society good? Please. We just don't think that big government social programs are the way to go about it. Private charity is best. Building up business gives people jobs, the best form of employment there is.

"Democrats don't pander to bigots in their campaign ads. Aka. Willie Horton and other examples."

We just elected a president, from your party, who went to a racist church for 20 years. I know we're all supposed to forget about Trinity United because when it all came out Obama gave a speech with "soaring rhetoric" but I'm not letting him off that easily. For 20 years he sat there and listened to Rev. Wright spout his hateful racist sermons. At the very least it shows poor judgment.

Don't tell me Democrats don't run racist ads. Democrats in Louisiana ran racist ads against Bobby Jindal.

"Look at his moves and even you will admit he is governing from the center. He went to Capital Hill to get Republicans on board with the stimulous."(sic)

The "stimulus" was a joke. It was old-time Democrat pork barrel politics writ large. There were no serious tax cuts. There was no reason for Republicans go get on board.

Just stop trying to portray your side as all good and us as all bad. I don't on my blog.

You need to follow me more closely Tom. I give the Dems hell all the time.
I give Republicans more hell because they deserve more.

I read your comment about Republicans wanting to do good. No argument with that. But they also want the government to help them pay for good works they may or may not do through tax cuts. They still want the governmet to pay for it. That's their answer for almost all the ills of the world.

Harry Reid is a pro-life Mormon.

You may want to check on that. Some Republican governors are supporting Obama's stimulus package, including Sarah Palin. Governors tend to know more about their states' economic problems than do Representatives and Senators.

Also, regarding your comments on Obama's "racist" pastor.

One pastor does not make an entire congregation.

It is useful to note this, because many, many Catholics stayed with their Church even though they learned it harbored and protected child rapists. Those are criminal acts. I don't know of any mass exodus from Catholic Churches once it was painfully plain that the Church supported and hid criminals who preyed (heh) on innocent children.

Rev. Wright committed no criminal act when he ranted against what he perceived as racist America.

If you want to use guilt by association on Prresident Obama for staying with his church, then the same goes for every Catholic who stayed in the Catholic Church, even though they learned that Church protected felons.

I keep hearing from the conservative commentators that Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican Party and I sure hope so. She'll get crushed if she runs for president in 2012.

My "friend" TruthO said this was a shitty time to be president. It may well do Obama in and we get Palin in 2012. We can hope for change.
