JUST EXACTLY WHEN WAS OUR NATION "INNOCENT"?

You can't watch the History Channel or listen to some do gooder without hearing the phrase "loss of innocence."
Just when exactly were we or anyone else "innocent"?
Our Nation lost it's innocence in every war it ever fought. The Kaiser took our innocence. Hitler took it. The Gay Nineties was a fun time for many but it also entailed a loss of innocence. The World's Fair that introduced A1 Steak Sauce, Hot Dogs and ice cream proved another innocence losing affair.
Some real robbers of innocence include Hitler, Hirohito and Manson. But it also was robbed by mundane things like game show scandals. Ooohh! They gave a guy the answers to the $64,000 question and our Nation was rocked and lost it's innocence. Big freaking deal.
Gay marriage and Tiger Woods (There's a shock. A young male celebrity having sex with multiple women. Who would have thought?) are hot innocence stealing topics today. One would think the moralists on the right would at least give grudging praise to Tiger for choosing to have sex with females but in their cloistered world sex doesn't exist. Look to their ignoring of John Ensign and his peccadillo's.
At least once a week some concerned parent complains about a school board decision and that it will rob children of their innocence.
Life has taught me that innocence ain't all it's cracked up to be. It's over rated. But it does give people that want to complain but can't think of why they're complaining a topic. It reminds me of when I started blogging. One of the first trolls that left a comment complained that I was foul mouthed and of perverted logic and morals. My presence on the web cost it it's "innocence."

Among the Middle French and Latin roots of the word "innocent" is to "not see."
...Kind of says it all.

"Innocence" in the sense of being "pure" -is for suckers.

That guy who criticized your post for such superficial reasons as explicit language can go fuck himself.

Being imperfect human beings, we lost our "innocence" at the split second of conception. As far as the nation goes, our Hitlerian genocide (ethnic cleansing, Manifest Destiny, whatever) by zealous "Christians" against the indigenous native American tribes stained our hands almost from the very start. Contrary to what the religious right or other far-right people may claim, we are not the best nation or the best people on earth. Nor are we the worst. We are just like everybody else, with periods of good, periods of bad, periods of brilliance, periods of ignorance, periods of benevolence, periods of greed, periods of humility, periods of boastfulness, periods of fairness, and periods of unfairness. One thing we must never be is complacent. And we should always strive to be noble. But innocent? Impossible.

I hear you Jack but the old salesman in asks who wants to hear America praised for being "not as bad a nation on earth as the rest of them"?

On the whole, Australia looks pretty cool.

Australia did a number on their indigenous population too Truth, so like us and everybody else, no innocence.

I agree with Jack we have times of getting it right, as individuals and as a nation, then we screw up.

Nations have cycled between good, bad and indifferent since the beginning of time.

Truth, I think if you were to ask any of these people who yap about the loss of innocence to explain what they mean, they wouldn't be able to. It's just another catch phrase, like freedom.

Who is wasting time looking for perfection in humans, or a government?

That's a fool following a delusion.

Obama is not a political messiah. There is no such thing as a political messiah.

Anyone who expects Obama to solve all our problems by now, or even in an 8 year term, is definitely following a delusion.

Anyone who thinks we would be better off with Bush still President, is following an even worse delusion.

Anyone who thinks we just now lost our innocence, must still be a virgin.

"Innocence" thats what I lost due to the swift boat veterans (up till then I thought Republicans and conservatives supported military service)

Then I lost even more of my innocence when I realized that conservatives don't really believe in democracy...but rather really want a fascist state...

Now that I find myself much more accustomed to being a political whore (since I have totally lost my innocence) I from time to time go to RIGHT IS RIGHT blog and see if I can piss off Heil Helga or I go and post something to Pam's blog....they both appreciate it because anything I post is like red meat to a pack of hungry dogs...

For a real orgy of stupidity I like to watch Glenn Beck...I love it when a guy making 10 million a year wants the ex head of ACORN to JUSTIFY his six figure salary (only once did Beck mention that it was $100,000/year...)

Now we come to find out that a company Beck owns, a company that sells gold is also his biggest advertiser...

What a PIMP....

My answer to your question is.----------After the first foot print was laid on Plymouth Rock the innocence vanished. Pilgrims were the persecuted that became the persecutors.

At the end of the day all that matters is if the individual has attempted, to the best of their ability and knowledge, to lead their life in an honest and ethical manner while making decisions that lead to their own moral happiness.

The loss of innocence begins at birth and continues throughout life. Perhaps in this day and age the sooner the loss the better.

We lose our innocence so often because it is fun (except for the few really bad things).

And since the Internet lost its innocence when you showed up with your filthy fucking mouth, you want to join me and make it lose its innocence with a verbal gangbang?

So what if we've "lost our innocence"? We are the best, greatest, freest, fairest, awesomest, most honest ethical and Christian country God has ever given man... or at least that's what Sean Hannity says.

I was going to mention our genocide of the native americans, but Jack Jodell already did.

Shelter a child too much from the reality that life is full of unfairness, and you're setting that child up for crushing disappointment. And that disappointment gets more and more crushing the longer she's been sheltered from reality.

I will be willing participant in your army of innocence destroyers Patrick. Perversion is our sword. Foul language will be our shield.
