BUD: THE REPUBLICAN JESUS
I told myself last year I wouldn't blog about local stuff but this is a special occasion.
The republicans en masse voted against Wall Street regulations that would save our Nation from another financial meltdown. And the inspiration for this action was none other than my old friend and local republican hero, Melvin "Bud" Niekamp.
Bud has been on our local School Board and County Board twenty years or so. And although he does have a good grasp of issues and can speak with authority, when it's time for a vote, Bud votes "no."
This has worked well for Bud because he's always the leading vote getter in every election despite the fact that he has never offered any alternatives to whatever he votes "no."
We have several on our County Board and two city aldermen that have adopted Bud's philosophy. And now, as a matter of local pride, it's cool to see Congressional republicans following Bud's lead. Offer nothing but a no vote.
There are those that have called my hometown of Quincy Illinois "Forgottonia." That is changing. Republicans everywhere are hearing the Word of Bud. And that Word is "No."
Good job Bud. It's about time you got the credit you deserved.

Well, he could replace Bitch McConnell.
Pretty stupid blog, even for you truth101.
Beautiful Latina is also an idiot.
I want to thank you again for helping me see what the republican party I supported all my life is really about Truth.
I was angry at the democrats who voted against troop funding and now the republicans will be doing the same thing with their ignorant partisan no votes on everything.
I could never reconcile my beliefs to allow myself to support most democrats. But I support and appreciate your points and sense of humor Truth.
Merry Christmas to you.
American's must trusted blogger? I wasn't aware you had been awarded/earned such a prestigious honorific. It's no wonder you've attracted celebrity readers like Heather Locklear, Oprah and Tiger Woods. Although I'm pretty sure Heather is a Republican. I guess she knows the truth when she reads it. I don't know how "Patrick M" is famous though. I'd have to guess that he's known for his foul mouth?
BTW those new Wall Street Regulations passed the House today 223-202. It includes new regulations on "derivatives", which IMO, should be banned outright. They were the major factor which contributed to the financial meltdown, and yet Conservatives continue to place the blame on irresponsible poor people. And have hoodwinked progressives into going along with this nonsense as well... apparently.
Sometimes the poor aren't as pure as we'd like to think WD. But it still comes down to the powerful taking advantage of them. Get a bunch of poor people loans and bundle them for sale to unsuspecting, or suspecting fools that think they can sell the loans to the next jive turkey down the line.
The "party of no" has no plans, no realistic alternatives, no solutions, and no agenda for the benefit of their country, which so badly needs these. I can only hope it won't be long before they shrivel up completely, lose office nearly everywhere, and end up being "no party" at all, followed by next to "no one."

I don't understand what you're implying. Not being "pure" (to me) implies you think some of these people (the ones taking out the mortgages) were trying to pull something. I don't understand what that might have been. Entering into a contract you know you won't be able to pay, being forclosed on and having your credit ruined benefits one how, exactly?
No, I think the evidence suggests that the majority of the people being forclosed on were scammed. If you wanted to pin this on one person I think that person would be Alan Greenspan. Read Ravi Batra's book, "Greenspan's Fraud", it isn't about the current financial meltdown, but it does point out how Greenspan did not have a consistent ideology. He said whatever he needed to in order to keep his job.
My background and work history are varied WD. The rich don't have a monopoly on scumbaggery my friend. I totally agree with you that many were taken advantage of by the easy loans presented them. I've also seen plenty that knew going in they couldn't or wouldn't pay.
Just as not all the rich are evil. Not all the poor are chaste.
I want to help them. I don't want my kind and gentleness taken advantage of however.
Most importantly. I love the shot and commentary of Tricky Dick.
I think a lot of up-scale people gor caught up is this housing sham - thanks to pushy real estate dealer as well as the loan companies.
For lack of anything to do on some days, I'd tour homes in the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley areas of AZ. These were 500,000 to 1M dollar homes. Huge money, huge houses and no furniture because after buying the house, they couldn't afford the furniture. But they too were taken in my ruthless loan companies. That's the big bucks. The small family who want to buy a bungaloo for $150K or more get screwed the same way. it just hurts them more because they have less to startx with.
I wonder if we've been spoiled with loan rates Leslie? My first house was close to 10%. Now it's half.
And I hear you on the house with no furniture deal. I don't know what some of these people were thinking. My old tax man didn't know how they were affording these high dollar homes either.
The Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area is very transient and at that time there were a lot of young wanna be's who wanted to put on the appearance of having a lot of money but didn't. Naturally they drove big expensive cars - but no furniture, so entertained outside the home. Weird.
Of course not being from your hometown in Illinois I can not possibly have an opinion here. Other than to say it s difficult to believe someone could be elected for over twenty years or so simply by voting no on everything.
That leads one to believe one of two things. Either he was right most of the time or the electorate in your district ain't to smart as a general rule.
Only a rational observation and nothing more.
Yes, Quincy....
My mother is from Hoopeston, Illnois and everytime my father went to Vietnam (which was twice) we would spend the year in Hoopeston...
Just another town that time passed by and is now just a empty shell of a town...
But the remaining inhabitants are die hard republicans and true blue conservatives...
Which includes my aunts, uncles, and cousins...
I just love it when they tell me that they want government to stay out of their lives...
I just look around and tell them that it appears that no one could find them in Hoopeston and I believe they are safe from anyone in the government finding them...
I always thought Bud was kind of a long running joke the electorate pulled on the school and county boards but who knows RN. Dick Durbin wins our county big when he runs but Obama gets his butt kicked.
It lead to many an election night WTF? moment.
