"Tasteless wisdom" seems kind of harsh. I would probably term it blunt humor, with a point. Surely not the way I would have written it, but as usual, your point is well taken.
I have always been dismayed that so many powerful men deem themselves to be beyond common decency. Although the case certainly could be made that in today's day and age that decency and sense aren't very common anymore.
As for politicians, I am convinced that it is time to disinfect the Washington DC. Both parties reek with hypocrisy and I don't feel they really offer the answer to the problems that confront the country. The well is so poisoned at this point that I don't feel answers will come.
As for the thought that as long as a politician does his job his personal life is inconsequential, do we really want to settle for that?
When the president and his wife went on a date to NY I saw it as a nice thing to do, notwithstanding the tone deafness that such an act conveys to the rest of the country. The administration for all of its acumen during the campaign is startlingly numb to perception.
Obama seems to be devoted to his wife and family and I find that admirable. Sanford, Clinton, and their ilk are unworthy of any admiration whatsoever. For the POTUS that's a shame.
Don't we have the right to expect that a man we hold up as the representative of our country, so by extension all us, be an individual with some personal accountability?
I find it hard to admire anyone who fails to uphold the most important relationship in their life. The vows one takes in marriage should hold such a place in a person's life that to break those vows should be beyond thought.
That's how I feel. Call me old-fashioned, call me naive although, naivte left me long ago.
